Children’s

Work

Kids AM

KIDS AM is a special Saturday morning group for Primary School aged children (5yrs – 11yrs). The name is shorthand for Kids Activity Morning and we meet once a month during term time, usually on the second Saturday of the month. Our sessions are usually held in Docking Church and they run from 9am to 12:30pm. We always ask the children to bring a packed lunch with them because, the last thing we always do is sit down together and eat as a group. During the course of the morning the children will be told a story (the theme for the day), then we usually sing a few relevant songs before splitting into groups to do different activities – either craft or food related. At the end of the morning the children leave with the fantastic things that they have made and also with the memories of a fun morning spent with their friends. All we ask is £1 to help us cover some of the cost of our materials and ingredients. KIDS AM is advertised in all three schools in the St Mary Federation, but we also have children who come to us from schools further afield. Any child in the area is more than welcome to join us. If you would like to have more information about KIDS AM then please feel free to call Peter on 01485 517157.

Thursday Club

Thursday Club is an after school club run by volunteers from Docking Church at Docking Primary School. It is a Christian club that aims to teach the children who come to it both Christian values and something of the Bible’s message. It does this through stories, craft activities and games. The Club is free and is open to any child in years four, five and six at Docking School. If you would like more information about Thursday Club then, please ask at the School Office.

Family Services

Docking Church has a small group of families who regularly attend the special family services that we offer. On the fourth Sunday of each month we hold our Family Service. This is a short service that runs for just over half and hour. We actively encourage our children to play an active part in these services and as a result they help to set up the worship space at the start of the service, they do the readings they lead the prayers and they also take the collection as well. The Family Service has been a great help in boosting our children’s confidence and definitely encourages them to feel at home at Docking Church. As well as our regular Family Service we also hold a regular Family Communion on the first Sunday of each month. A number of our children have gone on to be confirmed and they now assist as crucifers, servers and general helpers at this simple service of Holy Communion. We believe that children are every bit as important as any other member of our church and we do our best to encourage them to play an active part in the life of our church community.

Pastoral Visitors

It isn’t easy for one or two people to have responsibility for the care of five parishes. So, as a Benefice, we have encouraged a number of our regular members to get involved in visiting the people from our churches who, for whatever reason are finding it hard to get to church and be a part of the services and other social activities that spring from our church communities. Our visitors are happy to drop in for a chat and to help keep you up to date with all that is happening in your parish church and across the Benefice. If you would like to receive a visit from a visitor or from the Rector then, please feel free to call Peter on 01485 517157.

Home Communion

In addition to our pastoral visiting, if you are unable to get along to church, then we would also be happy to offer you Holy Communion in your own home. If this is something that you would like then, again, please call Peter on 01485 517157.
